some randoms

So I basically shoplifted today. I was buying lemons at Smith's and as the nice lady rung me up, my three lemons came to 4.89. SERIOUSLY!? $4.89? Apparently, they were "organic", special, Meyer lemons...Bless my heart. So the chick just ran me up for the normal lemons (59 cents by the way) and told me to go grab the lemons. With everyone watching me...I walked on over to the normal lemons, looked around suspiciously, grabbed three lemons, and busted it out of there. It's the closest I've ever gotten. It was thrilling.

So yesterday was James' birthday and Saturday we had a lovely get-together at Bombay House where we ate WAY too much Indian and came back where we played the all-famous Settlers of Catan. It was so fun to be with the parents (I think my mom is secretly really good at Settlers) and Katie, Sam, James, Dan, and especially Thayner. I ended up winning (because of some mercy and cheating on the part of my handsome husband) and I've felt guilty all weekend. So I officially declare Sam Taggart the winner.

Katie had her first dress fitting today and it was hilarious! I'm so grateful that I'm not getting married anymore. All that jazz takes so much time and comes down to, yes, a wonderful wedding day and reception....but not much else. Everyone says your wedding day is the best day of your life...but I think that's wrong. I think your life can get continually better--and it should...or people would just recreate their wedding day over and over again. And who wants the stress of picking out the color for their napkins AGAIN?! Anywho...Katie is going to look gorgeous...she'd look gorgeous in white sweatpants on her wedding day--so no worries there!

One last random for the weekend! We went to the Motab concert Sunday morning and Sara Whipperdavis danced. What a wonderous, beautiful, amazing production!!! We both loved it!

oh, thayner

I wrote something Thayne said that was hilarious, but he made me delete it. Love him.

feast your eyes

So I had my first taste of candy last week. My first taste of the annual-Davis-women-baking-and-candy-making-extravaganza. It was crazy, it was hot, there was melted butter and sugar everywhere. It was delicious. Here are our spoils:
I'm going to credit Paige and cute Becky for these puppies.
I got the first-year-Davis-novice-baker assignment of Mexican Wedding Cookies. Arriba!!!
Katie working her magic.
Janene just being magical.
Anywho, it was just an all-around wonderful experience and I'm looking forward to many years to come!

great weekend

Okay people, such a wonderful weekend. All sorts of stuff going on while we're living large in our basement! In no particular order, here's what we did:

We celebrated the 100th year of life for the coolest Swiss woman in Thayne's ward: Martha Border. In 77 years, we will have the experience that this woman has...wow. She really helped put it all in perspective for me. As you can see in this first picture, Thayne was NOT stoked to be there (in his defense, the Barcelona/Madrid game had just entered the second half and he was gettin' antsy).
But as you can see from this second picture, we are happy as clams to surround Martha with birthday wishes...what a cutie pie. She is totally with it, happy, and ready to live another 10 years. Go Martha!
We had a freshmen-roommate-and-respective-husbands reunion (every husband's dream Friday night, I know) at Temple Square. The Biggarts, Williams', future Swims (no idea what Spencer's last name is....whoops!), Katelyn Turner, and us had a jolly ole' time looking at the beautiful lights and temple. I stalked down a Chilean sister missionary from Concepcion and we had a lovely little chat. Ah, how I miss the Chileans...
While my parents were living it up with Mike and Ash in Mexico, my dad's coveted turkey-frier arrived and Thayne was the first one to touch it. My dad leapt with joy at the news it arrived.
Sophie and I got major plastic surgery and went bowling together...she almost beat me.

On the happiest note of all...I ignored finals ALL weekend and Thayne and I just watched a Muppet Christmas Carol. It wouldn't be Christmas without it.

the tree

There she blows!!!
Our first ever REAL legit straight-from-the-forest-that-we-chopped-down-with-our-bare-hands Christmas tree. Sure, it might be a little Charlie Brown-esque, but it's ours. Glen has this awesome little analogy about looking for a Christmas tree and how it's like looking for a spouse.
So you go out into the forest (world) looking for the perfect Christmas tree (spouse). You spend hours and hours (years, in some cases)tromping through the woods (stake dances, BYU, singles wards, blind dates) and see many awesome trees (awesome people), but you can't find the ONE (the ONE). Until, suddenly, you realize that you are exhausted and freezing and want to just go home (sick of dating) and you go back to the one you really liked (the boy you went to senior Christmas dance with) but passed up because there was a gap here or there (minor flaws). You cut down that tree and take it home (marriage), not even considering any other tree along the way (wandering eyes/doubt) and it resides in your house all season (eternal marriage).
The whole flaw thing is lame. Someone wise once told me "Never ever complain about your husband's flaws because it's those very flaws that kept him from getting a better wife!" So true.
I love it. I got me the best tree (husband) in the world.
Merry Christmas!

sleepy

For some reason, I haven't hardly slept these last two nights. No idea why. It's involved tossing and turning, ripping off all the covers, sleep-kicking, cold sweats, getting up and walking around, sighing because I want to sleep, humming, sleep-punching, flipping over, and basically any kind of sleep-violence you can think of. For some reason, Thayne hasn't been able to sleep either.

update

Update on raw-chicken-gate. I sat next to the lovely Georgians in Relief Society and mentioned the dinner fiasco with a smile. They looked confused (I'm bettin' on purpose) and were super nice. Luckily, no one had ecoli and could enjoy their Thanksgiving. I think they like us because we are having a genuine (say it like a southerner) bbq tomorrow with them! I hope it's not raw*.

*disclaimer: I know for a fact that their food will not be raw because they cook it for 20 hours.

the tree

Lovely week. Great food. Family time. Bike ride and Settlers with the Bourne family. Bowling and Mario Kart with the Davis family. We have so much to be thankful for. I'm going to go out on a limb (pun!) and say that my favorite thing was our new tradition of hiking out into the forest and cutting down our very own Christmas tree. The Davis family has been doing this since the dawn of time and I had a lot to learn before selecting our coniferous beauty.

Here's Thayner wielding his saw.
Since I'm a rookie, I thought all the trees looked really cute. Here we are going for a "Charlie Brown Christmas" feel.
Our fearless sidekick and little brother to Thayne, Jacob, helped us in the search of our perfect tree. (And looked pretty stylin' doing it) For more of this look, see John Denver's music video of "Dancing With The Mountains" here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB2E1D5hrdI
After about an hour of saying "too shabby, too thin, too dead, too small, too tall, too eaten by forest creatures, too bald, too creepy" we found our eternal companion tree...the tree that will be with us forever this Christmas. Thayne chopped 'er down and now we have our lovely Christmas off to a wonderful start!

not my day

Anyone ever heard of Murphy's Law? Let me tell you about my awesome day. Late to school because I got caught behind the Midway bus, my phone went off in class and I was extremely embarrassed, in one ear and out the other in my financial class, booked it over to the Social Security Office where I patiently sat for an hour only to be rejected by a man behind that glass counter "unfortunately, there is nothing we can do for you....next!"
Social Security Office Guy=

Then onto the grocery store to pick up a bucketload of ingredients for the dinner we were hosting tonight with our awesome neighbors from Georgia....definitely didn't print off my shopping list...ahhhhh. Five minutes into shopping in P-town my loving husband calls to tell me that there is a repairman waiting outside our house in Midway that very second. I stop shopping and book it up Provo canyon to let Legrand into our house while I go to the supermarket in Heber. For two hours I scrupulously chop, sautee, organize and bake what I KNOW is a dinner sure to impress. Clean the house...my loving husband comes home and helps me clean and set up. Awesome neighbors come over. I have them sit down and start to serve my luscious meal that I have worked very hard on and that I'm already nervous about. As I'm about to serve the third plateful, Thayne makes a very helpful observation that the chicken in the dish is completely RAW.

I try to tactfully take away everyone's plate, removing the chicken and rearranging the pasta and sauce, desperately trying to make it look like I meant to serve them only pasta with creepy red sauce for dinner. Luckily, they tactfully didn't notice what was going on. We had a wonderful time and I didn't cry until they left. Really not my day.

But!!! I'm optimistic. Tomorrow is a new day...the sun will shine, the birds will chirp, and Thayne and I have four pounds of chicken to eat for the week.

secret identity

Just when I thought I'd married the best person on earth and life couldn't get any better, dun dun DUN....I found out about Thayne's secret identity. When he isn't being a business tycoon or a professional fisherman or an awesome husband-dishwasher, he's leading the Nephites against Amalickiah yielding the title of liberty. What a man!

happy birthday katie!

Just want to wish my sister Katie a big, happy twenty-two years on earth two days ago. We sure have come a long way since you were born and I tried to smother you. I hope the next twenty-two years (hopefully longer :) ) are just as awesome as these first two have been. You are the best! (And remember, I'll always be 14 months older than you!) LOVE YOU KATIE

just did my visiting teaching

So I just did my visiting teaching and feel really good about everything. Thayne is out teaching some adorable eleven year old scouts how to be manly mountain men like himself. You know, when you do what you're supposed to, even if you aren't perfect at it (aka...me), you are blessed. I know that's true and I'm grateful. For example, every time in Chile that a rabid dog bit us, or it rained all day, or had to eat another mountain of mashed potatoes, or we got moldy feet, or someone rejected us....we got "husband points" and voila!!! Thayne. Thayne=lots of husband points. Thanks Chile!

In conclusion...I'm going to say "Dad, choose left!"

i love him

Yes, it's true. I love Thayne Davis. I thought I was getting a great deal when we got married, but little did I know just HOW incredibly wonderful this boy really is. I mean, just look at him!
He's manly...
He's adorable...
He's cultured...
He's lucky...
and he's perfect.

Still can't believe that I got to marry this kid. Each day with him, I learn how to be better, work harder, give more, and be happier. I love you Thayne!

ps-funny posts to come :)

we love midway

What originally was a hassle slash disaster turned into a gigantic blessing for us. The apartment that we were planning on in Salt Lake was ripped out of our hands a week before our marriage by the classic grandma-down-the-street-who-lives-in-the-guy's-ward-so-he-can't-say-no-to-her-grandson-even-though-all-our-stuff-is-already-packed situation. A few weeks later, the apartment flooded (which we think is a punishment from on high (JOKE)). Anywho, we ended up moving into my parents condo for a temporary extended honeymoon and we can't get enough of it. How could you not love this:

Let's be honest, my hair looks great in this photo, but seriously, people, look at those luscious red ruby leaves of autumn!!! Could we live in a more beautiful place? NO. We are so grateful for this opportunity. Thayne has already decided that we are going to live here the rest of our lives, call in elk, flyfish, serve in the AWESOMELY awesome ward, and go on endless jeep rides with our 8 children.

It's also awesome because it cuts my cougar commute to a mere 30 minutes and lets Thayne have an enjoyable 45 minute drive down Parley's. (for a funny link, go to www.byurejects.com--not going to lie, my tax research class had a really good time discovering that one).

I'm going to tell you about what we do after we make those awesome commutes, even though the only people reading this blog (aka our mothers) already know everything!

Thayne is basically Superman. We wake up at 5:55am every day and Thayne is out the door at 6:30 to enjoy a good 7 hours of school and he's off to his real passion....WORK! He is basically a business tycoon:
This is Thayne on his way to work...he loves it. (disclaimer: Thayne is much better looking AND he and his brother own outfityours.com - only the coolest place to buy all of your ipod, ipad, mac needs!)

Then he drives to Midway to be with his REAL passion...fly fishing!!

I basically married the most awesome person on earth.
Then, he comes home to be with his really REAL passion. His wife!

While Thayne is out conquering the world, I drive to BYU every day to become this:

we dated and now we're married

ahhh...eternal marriage
driving home the right way from lake powell

Just a little about us. We are thayne and emily davis. We met in junior high, flirted all through high school, played tennis, served missions (him argentina, me chile), dated, and got married. We both come from 100% incredibly hilarious and wonderful families whom we love very much. He's at the U and I'm at BYU. I cheer for the U and he cheers for BYU, so I guess you could say we are the perfect combination...we do what we can.
Thayne and his brother own and run outfityours.com which is the most awesome place to buy apple accessories on earth! I am an accounting nerd at BYU...so there again, perfect combo of savvy, creative business man and boring bookkeeping geek.
I love Thayne more than anything else on earth and we're grateful for our new little life we started together on august 22, 2011. Hopefully we'll post to this blog more than once a year and hopefully you'll enjoy the little updates on our life. love you all!
